09:00Gary Low, Ph.D. presents: Think Constructively, Act Wisely — Higher Order Learning With PERL Skills

In challenging, stressful, uncertain, and routine times, people encounter highs and lows, ups and downs. Life and career changes are opportunities to learn enduring, important lessons. Most people know resilience is essential to survive, flourish, recover; to heal from adversity and reactive problematic change. Likewise, most people should know healthy relationships are key to living a productive, healthy, and happy life. Reflective question for individuals, families, and organizations to guide this program: How do we develop resilience, resilient behaviors, renewal, and positive/healthy relationships that work?

Learning Objectives:
1. Explore and identify research derived emotional-social-life skill factors important for success, health, well-being, leadership.
2. Have access to positive assessments and resources to use in your work and continued personal growth.
3. Illustrate applications for teaching, learning, coaching, and leadership effectiveness.
4. Connect PERL skills with higher order learning pathways to develop resilience, healthy relationships, constructive thinking, renewal, and positive change.

1. Learn about forgiveness, its benefits, and relevance for work, family, friends.
2. Overcome chronic frustration, anger or feelings of being aggravated through forgiveness.
3. Use the Emotional Learning System to create forgiveness.
4. Practice self-forgiveness for an increased sense of peace, worth, and joy in life.

11:00Presentation with Lunch by Kevin Peek, PhD. presents: Remote Instruction and Evaluation of Emotional Intelligence Through Online Competency Based Courses

In this session, we present a model for developing and implementing online CBE courses on Emotional Intelligence (EI). Session attendees will acquire skills that enable them to develop online/remote CBE courses that contain competencies (skills and knowledge) on EI, individualized learning material on EI, and assessments that measure knowledge and skills in the context of EI. This model is, largely, a response to two objectives: the expansion of EI and the elaboration of remote technology and methodologies for instructing and evaluating EI. The primary beneficiaries of this model are persons who instruct EI and/or evaluate the ability of others to apply EI in their personal and professional lives.

Although the emphasis is more on the instruction and evaluation of EI, certain EI skills will be included as examples of competencies that would be covered in a CBE-EI course. They include but are not limited to: self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, motivation, and overall social skills.

Learning Objectives: The primary goal of this session is for attendees to acquire skills that enable them to develop online CBE courses that teach EI and evaluate its application. The learning objectives that support this goal are the demonstrative ability to:

1. Identify competencies (knowledge and skills) in EI. For example, empathy is an important competency in EI.
2. Write competencies and correctly situate them in an online CBE course.
3. Develop individualized learning material that cover the competencies and correctly situate them in an online CBE course.
4. Elaborate assessments that measure knowledge/ability to apply the selected competencies and correctly situate them in an online course.

12:00Julie Chancler, Ed.D. presents: Cognitive Distortion: How Emotional Intelligence, Adlerian Psychology, and Applied Behavior Analysis Shape Healthy Thinking

This program will be a compilation of transformative emotional intelligence, discussed from the work of Dr. Low and Dr. Nelson, combined with Adlerian Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis.
Finding balance often requires reflection. However, without reflecting in a productive manner, more harm than good can come out of the experience. What does healthy and productive reflection look like? In this program I will share how to avoid cognitive distortion and how to shape healthy, productive ways of thinking.

Objectives:
1. Participants will be made aware of various cognitive distortions in our everyday thinking.
2. Participants will be asked to take a self-inventory of their own “thinking habits”.
3. Components of Adlerian Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis will be shared.
4. After self-examination, participants will have the opportunity to cognitively rebuild their thinking habits to form a more EI-centric approach to healthy thinking.

13:00Sarah Spradlin, DBA and Fritz Lebowsky , Ph.D. present: Hidden Mental Roadblocks — Feeling them — Seeing them — Considering them carefully in Education

Hidden Mental Roadblocks may lead to unexpectedly high levels of stress and aggression in individuals, as they are easily ‘overlooked’ or ignored. Please join us in experiencing group exercises that illuminate powerful ways of identifying and mitigating the risk of creating hidden mental roadblocks as early on as possible. Taking this one step further, perhaps you can even imagine creating a fascinating learning platform attached to school education?

Just consider for example the following statement: “I am better than you!” and compare it with “I will try my best, one more time, every time; Would you like to join me in trying our best, better together?”

The overall context gives rise to some basic questions: What constitutes shared values in students? How best do we (re-) frame a young student’s mind to be careful/respectful of others and inspire empathy in others?

During our presentation we will introduce you to some innovative and pragmatic solutions based on our recently developed ‘SF Model & Method’ to address the following essential questions:

1. How can one get oneself ‘out-of-the-way’ and transform one’s EGO into self-confidence and courage that remains respectful of others?

2. How can we better manage our own emotional information as well as the emotional information of others in a collective effort to mitigate hidden mental roadblocks and collectively experience a “flow state,” bound to inspiring empathy and compassion in others?

Using an interactive virtual whiteboard we will invite participants to ask questions during fulfilling 5min exercises, followed by an introduction to problem solving methods emerging from productive inquiry. We will also focus on enabling resolution of faulty thinking by activating holistic collective decision making processes.

Learning Objectives: Our latest SF-Model & Method lets you

1. Increase confidence in asking insightfully meaningful open-ended questions in group/team context to identify hidden mental roadblocks.

2. Learn how to ask open-ended questions that let you feel, see, consider and mitigate important hidden mental roadblocks.

3. Grow your social/emotional competencies and engage in social responsibilities enabling effective open-minded collaboration.

Transformative Emotional Intelligence and Human Performance Improvement Technology offer an excellent framework to incorporate our ‘SF-Model & Method,’ especially in combination with some of our very pragmatic examples aimed at fostering multi-modal, multi-disciplinary open-minded collaboration. Our ongoing research also focuses on exploring meaningful synergies emerging from emotional information, emotional intelligence, appreciative inquiry, artificial intelligence (modern technology), and embodiment theory.

The COVID-19 pandemic offers an extraordinary opportunity of creating new spaces in school, work and life where we can collectively reflect on increasing one’s capacity to identify and ‘mitigate’ Hidden Mental Roadblocks early on.

09:00Ashis Sen, Ph.D. presents EI Intervention at a Fortune 500 Organization in India

Last year, emotional intelligence was leveraged as the main organizational improvement paradigm with 200 Senior Managers to improve EI competencies. During the three monthly follow-up meetings after the training, the managers recalled and shared their learnings with subordinates and stakeholders in the workplace, as well as family members at home. The encouraged practice of self-awareness, mindfulness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills led to stories which improved the work climate, employee engagement, reduced conflict, and also improved collaboration and cooperativeness between team members. These positive experiences were were especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic because the oil company had to operate the refineries and marketing networks by reported to their workplaces.

10:00Rimjhim Banerjee-Batist, Ed.D. presents Emotional Intelligence Development by Mentoring

Soft skills and competencies are increasingly sought after by employers because the economy has moved its focus from manufacturing jobs to service and technology jobs. Soft skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution are valued by employers and require employees to have a high degree of self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, and social awareness; pillars of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence, the ability to manage emotions, make good decisions, and have good relationships, accounts for majority of job performance. A mentor can work out a plan for developing emotional intelligence of the mentee by various reflective activities. After the individual development plan is agreed upon, the activities can be implemented, and the progress of the mentee can be reviewed and revised through a continuous improvement process. As the mentee develops a higher level of emotional intelligence, he/she becomes more valuable as an input in the organizational behavior model. The organization ultimately reaps the benefits of the employee's enhanced performance, increased engagement and commitment to the organization, and improved motivation with higher job satisfaction.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the drivers of change in the job market and the top skills needed
2. Describe EI and how it can be trained
3. Identify analysis levels of organizational behavior (OB)
4. Describe EI development process of mentee with the help of mentor
5. List sample IDP exercises, reflective activities, and mentor observation activities
6. Explain OB model with EI development by mentoring
